ONU photographer places third in image competition
Ken Colwell, Ohio Northern University’s associate director of web design, has been awarded third place in the University Photographers Association of America’s (UPAA) Monthly Image Competition. Colwell participated in the News, Spot & Feature category with “Fireworks Reflected,” a photograph taken during Homecoming 2011. This category of the competition featured 57 total contestants from universities across the United States.
This is the fourth time that Colwell has placed in the competition since joining in 2005.
Each month, members of the association judge images for quality, creativity and technical proficiency. The member with the highest score is deemed the winner.
“The Monthly Image Competition started in 2004 as a way for members to share photographs they had made, in friendly competition,” said Glen Carpenter, president of the UPAA. “The competition has grown from a few images in the early days to over 300 monthly entries. Throughout the life of the competition, manufacturers have offered prizes for the Best of Show each month and for the overall winner at the end of the year.”
The UPAA is an international organization intended for college and university photographers who are concerned with the practice and application of photography in higher education. The UPAA is committed to photographic excellence through continuing education and networking with their professional colleagues.
