ONU ranks high in national survey
Ohio Northern University demonstrated its strengths in significant areas of student engagement in the latest National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). ONU ranked high in key benchmarks among its comparison groups. NSSE’s annual survey provides diagnostic, comparative information about the prevalence of effective educational practices at participating colleges and universities.

In Memory: Dr. Kenneth Elshoff

ONU Trustee, Dr. Kenneth Elshoff, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2011. Elshoff joined the ONU Board in 1983, served as chair of the Board of Trustees (2000-2005), and was elected a Life Trustee in 2007. He served as co-chair of the Presidential Search Committee in 1999 and served as a member of the Presidential Search Committee in 2010-11. He received an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree in 1997. Services will be Dec. 4 at Linworth United Methodist Church, Columbus, Ohio.

Astronomy Club to host 'star party'

The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club will host a star party at the ONU Observatory on Friday, Dec. 2, from 8:30-10:30 p.m. At the star party, attendees will look for the moon, Jupiter, the Pleiades star cluster and the Andromeda Galaxy. This event is free and open to the public.

Professor to present recital

Dr. Rebecca L. Casey, Ohio Northern University associate professor of music, will present a piano recital in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at 2 p.m.
The recital will feature contemporary piano works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, David Guion, Maurice Ravel and Alberto Ginastera.

ONU employees honored for service
Ohio Northern employees were honored for their years of service at a luncheon Nov. 18.

McClough publishes article
Dr. David McClough, assistant professor of economics, is coauthor with Mary Ellen Benedict of Bowling Green State University, of an article published in the Fall, 2010, issue of the Pennsylvania Economic Review.  Titled “Is Education the Great Equalizer? An Examination of Race and Higher Education Attainment on Earnings,” the paper examines racial earnings differentials after controlling for education attainment, academic major and occupation. The article is found on page 77.

Engineering student receives research grant
Ohio Northern University student Derick Endicott, a senior mechanical engineering major from Belle Center, Ohio, has received an Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) Student-Innovative-Creative-Hands-on Project (SICHOP) grant to perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research.

Polar Innovation Exchange winners named
Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration hosted the Polar Innovation Exchange on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The competition was created to encourage creativity, innovation and the spirit of the entrepreneurial mindset while challenging ONU student teams and individuals to create and share ideas that will improve our global community.
