Professor to present piano recital
Dr. Rebecca L. Casey, Ohio Northern University associate professor of music, will present a piano recital in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at 2 p.m.
The recital will feature contemporary piano works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, David Guion, Maurice Ravel and Alberto Ginastera.
Casey will play Rachmaninoff’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin,” a suite consisting of six parts: the Prelude, Fuge (II), Forlane (III), Rigaudon (IV), Menuet (V) and Toccata (VI).
Guion’s “Alley Tunes: Three Scenes from the South” will consist of The Lonesome Whistler and The Harmonica-Player.
Finally, Casey will play from Ginastera’s “Sonata for Piano, Number 1, Opus 22.” This selection will consist of four parts: Allegro Marcato, Presto misterioso, Adagio molto appassionato and Ruvido ed ostinato.
At ONU, Casey teaches Piano Literature, Piano Individual and Piano Studio, assists with departmental academic operations, and serves as director of the Keyboard Area, the Accompanying Program and the ONU Piano Academy for young students in the surrounding area.
Casey received her Bachelor of Music in music education and piano performance from ONU in 1985. She received her Master of Music in piano performance in 1987 and a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance in 1997, both from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.
During the recital, members of ONU’s honorary band sorority, Tau Beta Sigma, will participate as ushers, and stagehands will be provided by the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
