In observance of Black History Month ‘24, Ohio Northern University will be hosting several campus events, such as panel discussions and library activities. They will include:
- Chapel Worship Service. Scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, Will Fenton-Jones, multicultural ministries director of the East Ohio Conference UMC, will give a presentation. The service will also include prayer, scripture reading and song from our students and other campus community members. This free service will be open to the public.
- Hesburgh film screening and discussion. Open to the campus community, the screenings are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in McIntosh Center Ballroom and Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in McIntosh Center’s Bear Cave. Hesburgh is a documentary about the story of Reverend Theodore Hesburgh, president of the University of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1987. He was considered one of the most inspirational leaders during the Civil Rights era for transcending all societal norms to bring people together. Hesburgh is being presented by TIAA to multiple campuses and institutions throughout 2024, the year that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
- Cultural Conversation Hour. Open to the campus community, this event will be held at the chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.
- Black History Month panel discussion. Open to the campus community and panelists’ guests, the discussion will be held Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. in McIntosh Center Activities Room. Panelists will include Black ONU alumni, Black faculty and staff, and Black student leaders who will also informally meet earlier in the day with student affinity groups, faculty, and staff.
- Digital Research Guide. Heterick Memorial Library will launch this guide in February.
