'How I Found My First (Great) Job’

Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration will present a panel discussing “How I Found My First (Great) Job” on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Forum of Dicke Hall.

Artists Against Hunger, Nov. 19

A soup bowl fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Wilson Art Center, sponsored by ONU’s Department of Art and Design and its ceramics program.  

SMArts Program comes to campus
Saturday mornings at Ohio Northern University can be a special time for area youths. With no classes scheduled, ONU’s campus and facilities are available to programs that give local children fun and exciting educational opportunities.

Spotlight: Faculty & Staff 

Abdel-Mohti speaks at Florida events
Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mohti, assistant professor of civil engineering, was guest speaker, Nov. 8, as part of pre-stressed concrete institute (PCI) lecture series at University of North Florida. He also spoke in front of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) about the issue of transverse deck cracking of steel girders bridge decks. The meeting with FDOT will set the stage for more research in the area of transverse deck cracking.

Melanie Caw Woods to backup Kenny Rogers
Melanie Caw Woods, director of the Communications Skills Center, is a member of The Voices of Ohio, a 50 to 60-member singing group that will be singing back up for Kenny Rogers on Nov. 25 in Columbus and Dec. 14 in Bowling Green.

Larry Robinson gives presentations
Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics Laurence Robinson recently gave two presentations, including“Let’s Make a Deal: I'll Explain’The Monty Hall Problem’ in the Simplest Terms Possible If You Promise to Never Never Bring It Up Again.” 

ONU honored by GLACUHO
Ohio Northern University received two awards at the Great Lakes Association of College and University Officers (GLACUHO) annual conference, held Nov. 13-15 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Chronicle of Higher Education
Faculty, staff and students of ONU have access to the online edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education, thanks to the Heterick Memorial Library. The subscription is available at http://0-chronicle.com.polar.onu.edu. On-campus users have direct access to the publication. Off-campus users must enter their name and University ID as a password.

Mathematics and Statistics Students present at the University of Findlay
Senior mathematics major, Lauren Cassell from Vandalia, Ohio, presented the paper, “Guarding a Koch Fractal Art Gallery,” and senior mathematics major Joseph Mileski from Tiffin, Ohio, presented the paper, “Paths of Melody Lines on Circles,” at the fall meeting of the Ohio Section of the Mathematics Association of America at the University of Findlay, Oct. 21, 2011.

Math student presents at the University of Dayton 
          
Courtney Brown a junior in mathematics and German from Coldwater, Ohio, presented a paper on a class of absolutely irreducible polynomials in two variables over a finite field inducing the zero function.

ONU-SOLVE recognized by quarterly
The ONU-SOLVE problem group, advised by Drs. Mihai Caragiu and Mohammad Zak in the mathematics department, has been recognized in the November, 2011, issue of the Fibonacci Quarterly.
This is the second such recognition.

Jason Duff named to Empact100 List; to be honored at the White House

Jason Duff, BSBA ’05, of COMSTOR Outdoor based in Huntsville, Ohio, has been named to the Empact100 list of the country’s top young entrepreneurs and will be recognized at the White House in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 17. The group will be honored for their accomplishments and positive influence on the American economy. The Empact100 list has been created by Empact, in partnership with the Kauffman Foundation, Opportunity International, Global Entrepreneurship Week, and the Startup America Partnership.
