OAC Review: Ohio Northern University sweeps 2011 Cross Country Championships

Following a 30 minute frost delay, the Ohio Northern men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by ONU at Lost Creek Golfers Club in Lima, Ohio.

On the men’s side, the Polar Bears finished with 43 points, followed by 2010 champion Mount Union with 75 points. John Carroll (89), Heidelberg (103) and Marietta (138) rounded out the top five.

Taking the individual title was junior Caleb Muller of Marietta, who finished the race in 25:27.7. Muller finished second in last year’s championships. Baldwin-Wallace junior Kenneth Janosko finished second in 25:44.8 while Wilmington senior Pat Carroll finished third in 26:02.6.

Rounding out the top 5 men’s finishers were Ohio Northern freshman Nathan Rosenbaum, who finished 26:04.5, followed by Mount Union sophomore Josh Clemence in 26:05.8.

On the women’s side, the Polar Bears defended their 2010 title, finishing with 35 points. John Carroll came in second with 71 points, followed by Wilmington’s 102 points. Baldwin-Wallace (106) and Mount Union (132) finished fourth and fifth as a team, respectively.

Junior Alison Steinbruner earned her third OAC individual title, crossing the finish line in 22:15.9. Marietta senior Reba Leonard came in second in 22:36.5, with Wilmington junior Annie Cekada taking third in 22:42.4.

Rounding out the top 5 was Capital junior Emma McCarron (22:47.3) and sophomore Gabriella Kreuz of John Carroll (22:51.7).

The top-18 runners were honored with All-OAC accolades; 1-9 are recognized as First Team All-OAC and 10-18 are awarded Second Team All-OAC.

Next up is the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships, hosted by Oberlin College on November 12 at Woodchip Trail.

The NCAA Division III National Championships will be hosted by UW-Oshkosh on November 19 at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
