The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “Eurydice” from Oct. 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. There also will be matinee productions on Oct. 22 and 23 at 2 p.m.


ONU to host lecture by top ethnobotanists

Ohio Northern University will host a lecture by leading ethnobotanists Dr. Sebsebe Demissew and Dr. Nigist Asfaw in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Town and Gown Banquet, Nov. 7
The 46th annual Ada Town and Gown Banquet will be held in the McIntosh Center ballroom on the campus of Ohio Northern University on Monday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Attends conferences
Dr. Mohammad Ali Khasawneh, assistant professor of civil engineering, attended a workshop titled “Innovating Curriculum with Entrepreneurial-mindset: Focus on Structural Mechanics,” Oct. 7 and 8, at St. Louis University. He is currently attending the Second International Warm-Mix Asphalt Conference, Oct. 11-13, in St. Louis, Mo.

Nixle.com is now ONU’s Emergency Text Message System
Ohio Northern University emergency text messages are now being delivered through Nixle.com, a free web-based service. ONU emergency text messages are sent by ONU’s Security Department. If you previously signed up for text messages through Luminis, you will need to go to www.nixle.com and create a new account. Existing accounts have not been transferred. At Nixle you can sign up for both text and email alerts. Go to www.nixle.com and follow the sign up instructions. Learn how to sign up for Nixle.

WONB celebrates 20 years on the air
WONB-FM, the broadcast voice of Ohio Northern University, is celebrating its 20th birthday on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Civil engineering students attend OCA Day
On Oct. 13, Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mohti’s structural analysis class will attend Ohio Contractor Association (OCA) Day in Perrysburg, Ohio.

‘Up ‘til Dawn’
ONU’s “Up ‘til Dawn,” a student-led, student-run, philanthropic organization to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, will hold a letter-writing event from 5 to 9 p.m., Oct. 19, in the Wishing Well. Participants will be asked to fill out letters asking family and friends for donations to support St. Jude. Register online.

Trick or Treat!
ONU's residence halls will welcome Ada's children for the annual Trick or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m., Oct. 25.

Pharmacy job fair set

The 2011 Pharmacy Jobs Fair will be Oct. 31, hosted by ONU’s Office of Career Services. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Field House with an opportunity to sign up for afternoon interviews. Register online. For more information, contact Mindy Nungester at 419-772-2760.

Free flu shots offered to students
The ONU Health Center will provide free flu shots to ONU students from 5 to 7 p.m., Oct. 6. Students who receive their shot during these times will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card, sponsored by the Society of Medical Professionals (SMP).

Study Abroad Fair set
ONU’s Annual Study Abroad Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 14 in the McIntosh Activities Room. Representatives from international education organizations will provide information on various education abroad opportunities. Study is available to ONU students in more than 40 countries, covering six continents.

Speakers set for PT Month
Dr. Philip Anloague, director of the University of Dayton’s doctor of physical therapy program, and Trista Cathcart, graduate admissions coordinator, will be guest speakers for Physical Therapy Month. They will be presenting “Move Forward with a Career in Physical Therapy” at 11 a.m., Oct. 25 in Mathile 112. The program is sponsored by ONU’s Department of Biological and Allied Health Sciences and the Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Occupational Therapy Club.
