ONU to celebrate inauguration of President Daniel A. DiBiasio
Dr. Daniel A. DiBiasio will be inaugurated as the 11th president of Ohio Northern University in two days of activities beginning Oct. 6.

Lecture series to host TeleTech CIO
Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University will present Carol Kline, executive vice president and chief information officer at TeleTech Holdings Inc., on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at 7 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

Six to enter ONU Athletic Hall of Fame
Six members of the Ohio Northern University athletics family will be inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 30, as part of ONU’s Homecoming weekend. They will be inducted Friday during a banquet in McIntosh Center and introduced Saturday before the ONU football game at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 8:30 p.m. for the 2011 Homecoming concert.

ONU to host ninth annual math competition
Ohio Northern University will host 18 high schools during its ninth annual Mathematics Shoot-Out high school competition on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences.

‘Why do I need a business plan?’
ONU’s 2011-2012 series of entrepreneurship workshops kicks off Oct. 4 with the topic, “Why do I need a business plan.”  The program will be presented by Dr. Michele Govekar, professor of management. The event begins with networking at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m. in The Forum of James F. Dicke Hall. The event is free and open to the public. ONU to host Tibetan Monks

Ohio Northern will host six Tibetan monks for the Gaden Shartse Monks' Tour from Oct. 12-19. The monks will share many traditions with the community like performing sacred ritual dances, empowerment, music and chanting, and teachings. The campus will also be able to experience the sacred art of sand mandala. According to the monks,"Sand Mandalas are cosmic diagrams that represent the celestial mansion of deity." Classroom visits also are scheduled to lecture on topics like East Asian history, eastern religious traditions, "The Buddha in America," Buddhist teachings, Karma, "The Six Perfections" and "The Four Noble Truths."

Nixle.com is now ONU’s Emergency Text Message System
Beginning Oct. 1, all Ohio Northern University emergency text messages will be delivered through Nixle.com, a free web-based service. ONU emergency text messages are sent by ONU’s Security Department. If you previously signed up for text messages through Luminis, you will need to go to www.nixle.com and create a new account. Existing accounts will not be transferred. At Nixle you can sign up for both text and email alerts. Go to www.nixle.com and follow the sign up instructions. Learn how to sign up for Nixle.

Retirements
Two long time members of the ONU family will be celebrating their retirements on Friday, Sept. 30. Karen Condeni, vice president and dean of enrollment, and Rev. Vernon LaSala, chaplain, are both retiring.

The September issue of the HealthWise newsletter is now available with information on influenza, pneumovax, coughs and colds. Check out the new aquatic exercise program beginning in October.

Health screenings scheduled

Free flu shots offered to students
The ONU Health Center will provide free flu shots to ONU students from 5 to 7 p.m., Oct. 6. Students who receive their shot during these times will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card, sponsored by the Society of Medical Professionals (SMP).

Health Center introduces new staff
Lawrence Kuk, D.O., and Deborah Schwaiger, CNP, nurse practitioner, have joined the staff at ONU’s Student Health Center. Dr. Kuk is a graduate of ONU and the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and will see patients several hours a week at the health center. He has worked as a community pharmacist, and as an emergency and family practice physician. He also serves as adjunct professor of biological and allied health science at ONU. Schwaiger, who holds a family nurse practitioner degree from the Medical College of Ohio, will be full-time as nurse practitioner at the center.

Law to host mock interview day

On Friday, Sept. 30, second and third-year law students will be taking part in mock interviews conducted by the law alumni board of directors at the Pettit College of Law. A series of presentations will offer insights into working in large multi-national firms; opening an independent law office; working in high profile cases and judicial clerkships. Mock interviews will follow.

Study Abroad Fair set
ONU’s Annual Study Abroad Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 14 in the McIntosh Activities Room. Representatives from international education organizations will provide information on various education abroad opportunities. Study is available to ONU students in over 40 countries, covering six continents.

Speakers set for PT Month
Dr. Philip Anloague, director of the University of Dayton’s doctor of physical therapy program, and Trista Cathcart, graduate admissions coordinator, will be guest speakers for Physical Therapy Month. They will be presenting “Move Forward with a Career in Physical Therapy” at 11 a.m., Oct. 25 in Mathile 112. The program is sponsored by ONU’s Department of Biological and Allied Health Sciences and the Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Occupational Therapy Club.
