ONU to celebrate inauguration of President Daniel A. DiBiasio

Ohio Northern University will celebrate the inauguration of Dr. Daniel A. DiBiasio as its 11th president with two days of events beginning Oct. 6.

The inauguration events commence with an academic symposium in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. Titled “Enhancing Student Learning and Success at ONU: The Promise of High-Impact Practices,” the symposium will feature guest speaker Dr. George Kuh, Chancellor’s Professor Emeritus of Higher Education at Indiana University.

Kuh is the founding director of the Center for Postsecondary Research and the National Survey of Student Engagement and related instruments for law students, beginning college students and faculty. He currently directs two national projects, the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment and the strategic National Arts Alumni Project, the first in-depth look at the factors that help or hinder the careers of graduates of arts-intensive training high schools and postsecondary institutions.

A panel of ONU faculty members who represent ONU’s five colleges will follow Kuh’s presentation with a response. The panel members are Robert Alexander (Getty College of Arts and Sciences), Kenneth Reid (T. J. Smull College of Engineering), Michele Govekar (The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration), Amy Stockert (Raabe College of Pharmacy), and Bryan Ward (Pettit College of Law).

An inauguration concert, “Hopes and Dreams,” featuring the ONU Symphony Orchestra, will take place in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and non-ONU students, and $9 for children. Tickets are on sale now. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling 419-772-1900. Tickets also are available online at www.freedcenter.com

The formal investiture ceremony will take place in the ONU Sports Center on Friday, Oct. 7, at 1 p. m. A reception will follow at 3 p.m. in the ONU field house. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Before DiBiasio became president of Ohio Northern University, he was president of Wilmington College, overseeing excellent growth in enrollment and the college’s academic and advancement affairs. In his 16 years at Wilmington, the college added four undergraduate academic programs and its first graduate program.
