ONU receives high marks for ROI
Ohio Northern University is ranked among the top schools in the nation and in the state of Ohio for its students’ tuition return on investment (ROI) according to a PayScale report released in September. ROI is a function of two things: how much students spend to earn a degree, and how much graduates earn.

Amy Marshall Dance Company to perform Sept. 24

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the Amy Marshall Dance Company with the ONU Dance Company on Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.

College of Law to cohost Ohio Supreme Court Lecture Series
Albie Sachs, former Justice on the Constitutional Court of South Africa, will share his life story from fighting for freedom and human rights to a seat on his nation's court at the Supreme Court of Ohio’s next Forum on the Law lecture on Sept. 20.

Sign up for fall open houses
Ohio Northern University welcomes high school seniors to campus for a series of four open houses beginning Sept. 24. Prospective students will learn about specific Ohio Northern programs, meet with current students, faculty and staff, and attend informational admissions and financial aid sessions. A complimentary lunch and campus tour also will be provided.

Lecture series to host TeleTech CIO
Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University will present Carol Kline, executive vice president and chief information officer at TeleTech Holdings Inc., on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at 7 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing arts.

Homecoming 2011 begins Sept. 30

Ohio Northern University will celebrate Homecoming 2011 from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. All alumni, friends, family, faculty and students are welcome to attend.

ONU to host Tibetan Monks
Ohio Northern will host six Tibetan monks for the Garden Shartse Monks' Tour from Oct. 12-19. The monks will share many traditions with the community like performing sacred ritual dances, empowerment, music and chanting, and teachings. The campus will also be able to experience the sacred art of sand mandala. According to the monks,"Sand Mandalas are cosmic diagrams that represent the celestial mansion of deity." Classroom visits also are scheduled to lecture on topics like East Asian history, eastern religious traditions, "The Buddha in America," Buddhist teachings, Karma, "The Six Perfections"
and "The Four Noble Truths."

ONU’s admissions website earns ‘A’ rating
Ohio Northern University’s Office of Admissions website has earned an “A” rating and a top-100 ranking in the 13th annual My College Options Enrollment Power Index (EPI).

Fund raisers benefit child
Several fund raisers are underway for Bree-Anna Goble, 4, the daughter of ONU employee Jeff Goble, Sodexo physical plant. She has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) a treatable type of leukemia.
A basket raffle was held Wednesday, Sept. 21, and the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon will be donating proceeds from the Homecoming balloon glow, 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 1 on the Tundra. To learn more about the Sigma Phi Epsilon effort, contact J-atkinson.2@onu.edu

Boyadzhiev publishes article
Khristo Boyadzhiev, ONU professor of mathematics, has co-authored the article, “The integrals in Gradshteyn and Ryzhik. Part 17: The Riemann zeta function” in the journal Scientia. His co-authors are Tewodros Amdeberhan, and Victor H. Moll. The article provides solutions and corrections (based on an unified method using the Riemann zeta function) to a number of integrals in Gradshteyn and Ryzhik's Table of Integrals,
Series, and Products, Seventh edition.

Math article receives recognition
The article "On Ducci sequences with alegraic numbers" (Fibonacci Quarterly, v.49, 2011, p. 34-40) by Mihai Caragiu, ONU professor of mathematics, Alexandru Zaharescu, UIUC, and Mohammad Zaki, ONU assistant professor of mathematics, has been included among the publications produced as a result of the NSF Program "Analytic methods in Number Theory" dealing with open problems "which have attracted some of the top researchers in the field."

Kamatali named to posts
Jean-Marie Kamatali, visiting assistant professor in ONU’s Democratic Governance and Rule of Law LL.M. program, has been appointed to the Advisory Council on the Law Profession of the Fetzer Institute. The mission of the Fetzer institute is to offer innovative perspectives on human potential that can ultimately transform our world. In addition, his article, “ The New Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights’ Contribution in Ending the Divisive Debate over Human Rights Responsibilities of Companies: Is It Time for an ICJ Advisory Opinion?” was accepted for publication in the Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law, Volume 20, Issue 2,  Spring 2012. He was also recently appointed chair of the Human Rights and Legal Change Section of the African Studies Association. Founded in 1957, the African Studies Association (ASA) is the leading North American organization that promotes the study of Africa in all academic disciplines and for contemporary practitioners.

Beginning Oct. 1, all Ohio Northern University emergency text messages will be delivered through Nixle.com, a free web-based service. ONU emergency text messages are sent by ONU’s Security Department.
If you previously signed up for text messages through Luminis, you will need to go to www.nixle.com and create a new account. Existing accounts will not be transferred. Tuition Exchange information session

Phi Beta Delta to host presentations
Phi Beta Delta, the Honor Society for International Scholars will host its first program at 7 p.m., Thursday Sept. 22 at 7:00 PM in the Dicke Forum. Students who took part in the Hanyang and Dankook programs in South Korea last summer will be presenting their experiences during the program.

Simulating an Assembly Line
Check out the www.engineering.com site and the "Learning Series" video featuring Katie Wade, a senior in manufacturing technology from Ijamsville, Md., and an ONU simulation project for Ford.

Math students publish articles
Mathematics major Ashley Risch and her advisor, Mihai Caragiu, professor of mathematics, have an article, "An Euler-Fibonacci Sequence," accepted for publication in the Far East Journal of Mathematical Sciences. Mathematics graduate Gregory Back and his advisor, Caragiu, have been recognized in the Online Encyclopedia for Integer Sequences which makes a reference to their article "The Greatest Prime Factor and Recurrent Sequences"
which appeared last year in the Fibonacci Quarterly.

Problem Solving Recognition

The article "Multidimensional Greatest Prime Factor Sequences" by Dr. Mihai Caragiu, professor of mathematics, Lauren Sutherland, BS ’11, and Mohammad Zaki, assistant professor of mathematics, has been accepted for publication in JP Journal of Algebra, Number Theory and Applications. A solution submitted by the ONU-Solve Problem solving group, faculty advisors Caragiu and Zaki, was published in the August 2011 Problem Section of the journal Fibonacci Quarterly.

Free flu shots offered to students
The ONU Health Center will provide free flu shots to ONU students from 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 27 and Oct. 6. Students who receive their shot during these times will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card, sponsored by the Society of Medical Professionals (SMP).

Law to host mock interview day
On Friday, Sept. 30, second and third-year law students will be taking part in mock interviews conducted by the law alumni board of directors at the Pettit College of Law. A series of presentations will offer insights into working in large multi-national firms; opening an independent law office; working in high profile cases and judicial clerkships. Mock interviews will follow.

Study Abroad Fair set
ONU’s Annual Study Abroad Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 14 in the McIntosh Activities Room. Representatives from international education organizations will provide information on various education abroad opportunities. Study is available to ONU students in over 40 countries, covering six continents.
