STEM grant opportunity for middle and high school teachers

Ohio Northern University was recently awarded an eTech Teacher Planning Grant for Middle and High School Math, Science, and Technology teachers. A team from ONU wrote the grant proposal called, "STeM 2 STEM: Capitalizing on Engineering to Increase ICT Use in Education. Utilizing Educational ICT to Help Capitalize the ‘e’ for Engineering in STeM," with the focus of bringing engineering education into the math, science and technology classrooms through hands-on, inquiry lessons. For example see “lesson plans” at http://tryengineering.org. These lessons are aligned with the National Standards for science, math and technology.

We will be selecting up to 35 teachers from Hardin, Hancock, Allen, Wyandot, Marion, Auglaize, Shelby, Logan and Putnam Counties to participate in this program. Deadline for registration is May 24, 2011.

Participants will meet for one week in the summer (June 20-24, 2011) and attend two follow-up meetings, October and January, and a mini-symposium in the spring (March or April). Teachers will participate in a number of activities to bring STEM Education and technology to your classroom. Participants will receive a small stipend and additional funds for resources for their classroom. If you have questions or need more information, contact Dr. Ken Reid or Dr. Debra Gallagher
