Ohio Northern University's Heterick Memorial Library provides important resources for students, faculty and staff on campus. Now, the new mobile app Heterick2Go provides many of those same services for those on the go.

Spring Celebration of the Arts
The University welcomes Timothy O'Keefe, winner of the 2010 FIELD Poetry Prize, on Thursday, May 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Elzay Gallery. O'Keefe will read from his newest book, "The Goodbye Town" (Oberlin Press, 2011). In addition, the celebration will feature the work of English and art and design students.

Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton to speak at law commencement ceremony

The 2011 Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law commencement will take place on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. in the ONU Sports Center. Approximately 97 students are slated to graduate. Dr. Kendall L. Baker, Ohio Northern University president, will preside.


Sherrod Brown to speak at undergraduate commencement
Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2011 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony in the Sport Center on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at 2 p.m. Approximately 600 students will be awarded degrees.

ONU makes articulation agreement with two community colleges

Ohio Northern University has established articulation agreements with Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, and Owens Community College in Perrysburg and Findlay, Ohio, to manage transfer policies, enhance advising and simplify the transfer of courses or credits between the programs.

Honors Day celebrates academic achievement (see images)

On Saturday, May 7, hundreds of ONU students and their families took part in the annual Honors Day activities, including a formal convocation with speeches by Dr. Boyd Rorabaugh, associate professor of pharmacology and cell biology, and Kyle Stinehart, president of Honors Council. Honoraries and professional organizations initiated new members throughout the day.

Spotlight: Faculty & Staff

Pitts speaks on American mass media
Dr. Jonathan Pitts, associate professor of English/professional writing and Fulbright lecturer in American studies, was recently the featured speaker at Erciyes University in the city of Kayseri in Central Anatolia. Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and working with a translator, Pitts spoke to students and faculty on American mass media and media literacy. The title of his lecture was "American Mass Media: Image and Word."

Free youth football clinic
A free youth football clinic is being offered Saturday, May 14, at ONU’s Dial Roberson Stadium, hosted by the ONU football coaching staff and players. Young athletes will participate in drills and activities conducted by the University’s football coaching staff and players and will have an opportunity to tour the stadium. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. with the clinic from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants are encouraged to stay on the sidelines for the ONU football scrimmage from 3 to 5 p.m. To learn more or to register, contact assistant football coach Devin Russell at 419-772-2588 or d-russell.2@onu.edu

Engineering student receives SMART scholarship
Ohio Northern University student Brooke Hayden, a sophomore electrical engineering major from New Carlisle, Ohio, has received a scholarship through the Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program.

ONU to recognize student leaders
Ohio Northern University will host the 13th annual President’s Leadership Dessert on Wednesday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the King Horn Center’s field house. An evening of fellowship, dessert and awards, the President’s Leadership Dessert is designed by the University to thank and recognize students who have demonstrated leadership potential.

Textbook rentals come to campus bookstore
This fall, Ohio Northern University will become part of a select group of colleges/universities offering students a textbook rental program. This opportunity is made possible thanks to a partnership forged between Ohio Northern University administration and the campus bookstore, managed by Barnes & Noble. With textbook rentals, students can realize tremendous savings, paying less than half of what they would to purchase a new, printed textbook.

Biology majors present at the 120th Annual Meeting of the Ohio Academy of Science

Ten biology majors presented the results of individual or group research at the Ohio Academy of Science (OAS), held April 16 at Otterbein University. Their research projects were products of either independent study or in-class research.

Paper published
Jennifer (Srnick) Steele, BA’05, a criminal justice and sociology major, has co-authored a just-published paper on social learning theory. The paper, “Nonmedical Prescription Drug Use Among US College Students at a Midwest University: A Partial Test of Social Learning Theory” appears on informahealthcare.com She received her master’s degree from Ohio University in 2006, but her interest in social learning theory began at ONU and continued with her thesis research at OU. She came back to ONU to visit the department in 2007 to get assistance with SPSS analytic techniques.
