Celebration planned to honor President and Mrs. Baker 
A campus-wide celebration to say thank you and goodbye to President and Mrs. Baker is scheduled for Thursday, April 28. The program will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Field House followed by a picnic. Classes will be cancelled at 3 p.m. and University offices will close at 3 p.m. in order to allow the entire campus community to attend.

Ohio Northern to recognize academic achievement at Honors Day
Ohio Northern University celebrates its 39th annual Honors Day program on Saturday, May 7, from 8:15 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Unite For Awareness Week
Ohio Northern University will host the seventh annual “Unite for Awareness Week,” a student-driven initiative to bring attention to issues of discrimination, beginning on Wednesday, April 27. The theme for this year’s awareness week is “Don’t H8!”

Heroin to be the topic of panel discussion

Ohio Northern University will host a panel discussion on the effects and use of heroin on local and international scales on Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in the Forum of Dicke Hall.

Spring Celebration of the Arts
The University welcomes Timothy O'Keefe, winner of the 2010 FIELD Poetry Prize, on Thursday, May 12, from 7-9 p.m. in the Elzay Gallery. O'Keefe will read from his newest book, "The Goodbye Town" (Oberlin Press, 2011). In addition, the celebration will feature the work of English and Art and Design students.

Spotlight: Faculty & Staff

Pitts featured speaker at Baskent University
Jonathan Pitts, associate professor of English and current Fulbright Senior Lecturer in American Studies in Turkey, was recently the featured speaker at Baskent University in Ankara, Turkey. The title of his talk was "American Identity and the American Self." In addition to reading from his own work, Pitts spoke about the concept of the self in American culture.

Gallagher, Crosser present ‘Educational Equity and Access in South Africa’
Dr. Debra Gallagher and Dr. Sandra Crosser of the ONU Department of Education presented a session titled “Making the Strange Familiar: Educational Equity and Access in South Africa” in New Orleans at the annual conference of the Association for Childhood Education International.

Drs. Waters to teach abroad
ONU faculty members Drs. Sarah and Robert Waters will be teaching abroad during the summer of 2012 through the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC).

Tornado awareness month
April is tornado awareness month. The University's outdoor warning siren is tested on the first Friday of each month at approximately noon. If threatening weather is in the area, the test will be canceled. A continuous siren blast sounds when a tornado warning is in effect. The siren will continue to sound until the danger has passed.

Mathematics and statistics faculty and students present papers at Youngstown State University
Senior mathematics majors, Molly Eickholt, Dublin, Ohio, and Kristin Elix, Englewood, Ohio, and junior statistics major, Dave Mangus, Canfield, Ohio, presented papers at the recent spring meeting of the Ohio Section of the Mathematics Association of America (MAA).  

Burke receives research grant
Hanna Burke, a senior in psychology from Findlay, Ohio, has been awarded a $1,450 grant for undergraduate research from Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology.

ONU Relay for Life is this weekend

The ONU campus Relay for Life will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, April 29, and continue through noon on Saturday, April 30, on the Tundra.

Run for the Roses, May 1
The annual Cystic Fibrosis fund raiser, Run for the Roses, is now accepting registrations for the May 1 5K walk/run. Runners/walkers can register online or make donations.
