Medical professionals invited to program
“Sepsis Management and the Role of Procalcitonin" is the title of a continuing education program for laboratory and other medical professionals scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m., April 13 in Mathile 112.
Hosted by the Professional Association of Clinical Laboratory Students (PACLS), the program will be presented by Kathy Doesburg, BA, RN, a clinical consultant for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Doesburg's area of expertise is sepsis and biomarkers. She has worked for the diagnostic industry for three years and has worked as a critical care and emergency room nurse for 20 years. She will discuss how procalcitonin can be used in conjunction with other laboratory findings and clinical assessments to aid in the risk assessment of critically ill patients on the first day of ICU admission for progression to severe sepsis and septic shock.
