President of Georgia to keynote Law commencement
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, will deliver the commencement address at the 2011 Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law graduation ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Saakashvili also will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Law commencement information.

Sen. Sherrod Brown to speak at undergraduate commencement
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will deliver the commencement address at Ohio Northern University’s 2011 undergraduate commencement ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Saturday, May 22. Undergraduate commencement information.

Law Review Symposium

The Ohio Northern University Law Review, in conjunction with the Fred L. Carhart Program in Legal Ethics, will hold its annual symposium on Wednesday, March 30, in the College of Law’s Moot Court Room. The symposium, “Crisis in the Legal Profession,” will feature several leading educators and practitioners who will discuss emerging ethical issues in civil procedure, the right to counsel, indigent defense, and the role of the trial in the pursuit of justice. 

University Singers, Defiance Choral Union to perform combined concerts
The University Singers from Ohio Northern University and the Defiance College Choral Union are joining forces for the first time. The next concert will be Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. at St. John Church of Christ in Defiance.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Senior VP to speak
Ohio Northern University will host a lecture by Brenda S. Harmon, senior vice president and chief human resources officer of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, in the forum of Dicke Hall on Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. 

Founder's Day, April 6
Dr. Henry Solomon Lehr, as portrayed by Chris Ciha, will share his story of the founding of ONU at the 11 a.m., April 6 Founder's Day celebration in the ONU Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

‘Navigating Gender Issues in the Workplace’

The ONU College of Law and its Legal Association of Women will host a continuing education seminar, “Navigating Gender Issues in the Workplace,” from 1 to 4 p.m., April 8 at the College of Law. The event will end with a reception and dedication of a portrait of Lena Boggess Wilcox Mason, BS 1896, LLB 1896 , the first female graduate of ONU’s College of Law.

Author and expert on stereotypical images of Muslims to speak

Dr. Jack Shaheen, internationally acclaimed author and media critic, will address stereotypical images of Muslims at Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center For the Performing Arts on Monday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Shaheen’s lecture, “Reel Bad Arabs,” focuses on the documentary and book of the same name.

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the ninth International Play Festival from Wednesday, April 6, to Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m., along with 2 p.m. shows on Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10. A preshow discussion will be held on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:15 p.m., and a post-show discussion will take place on Friday, April 8.

Faculty, staff recognized for service
At ONU’s annual faculty and staff  recognition dinner, March 28, 2011, special recognition was given to four retiring   members and four faculty members marking 20 years of service.

Recent grants announced

Dr. Andrew Roecker, associate professor of pharmacy practice, Dr. Dennis De Luca, associate professor of biological sciences, Robin White in the Department of Nursing and Dr. Natalie DiPietro, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, are among the most recent faculty members to receive grants to fund their research and programs.

Khasawneh to attend NCAT training
Mohammad Khasawneh, assistant professor of civil engineering, will attend the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) 21st annual Professor Training Course June 21-30. Held at the NCAT facility in Auburn, Ala., the eight-day program consists of intensive lectures, laboratory exercises and discussions to investigate all phases of asphalt technology.

April Fool’s Celebrity DJ Day
Listen to WONB on Friday, April 1, to hear ONU faculty and staff as well as community leaders take part in the third annual April Fool’s Celebrity DJ Day. Tune in to see who will stop by to spend an hour on-air with a student DJ, talking with the student, giving weather updates, picking the music and reading public service announcements. Listen for Coach Dean Paul, ONU Chaplain Vern LaSala, University Director of Bands Dr. Charles Bates, Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart and Ada Chamber of Commerce President Matt Brown. Child Development Center accepting enrollment
ONU's Child Development Center is now accepting enrollment for fall. The center offers full day preschool or morning preschool on Tuesday and Thursday, or Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. For details contact June Zimmerman or call 419-772-2141.

Learn to swim
Swim lessons will be offered April 3,10,17 and May 1 and 8 by students in the coaching theories of competitive swimming class with proceeds to benefit the ONU men and women's swimming and diving team. Cost is $50. For details, contact j-ewald@onu.edu

Phi Beta Delta hosts debate on the law of war
Ohio Northern University’s Phi Beta Delta International Forum presents a debate between two law of war experts on Wednesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the College of Law’s Moot Court Room. The debate is titled "Civil Liberties, National Security Policy, and Targeted Killing in the War on Terror: Change Versus Continuity from Bush to Obama.”

Run for the Roses, May 1
The annual Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser, Run for the Roses, is now accepting registrations for the May 1 5K walk/run. Organized by ONU’s Athletic Training program, the event is held in memory of ONU graduates Angela Badertscher, who lost her fight with Cystic Fibrosis in 2008, and honors her sister Kim Badertscher,  who has just received a lung transplant to combat the same disease. Runners/walkers can register online or make donations.
