ONU to present Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts will open its 17th season with Disney's "Beauty and the Beast."

"Beauty and the Beast" opens Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. and continues Aug. 24 and 25, also at 8 p.m., and Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. The second showing will be held Aug. 31 at 8 p.m., Sept. 1 at 8 p.m., Sept. 2 at 2 p.m., and Sept. 3 at 8 p.m.

Discover magic behind the castle walls of the beloved Disney tale that has charmed the hearts of more than 20 million people worldwide. Brilliantly adapted for the stage from the Academy Award-wining animated film, "Beauty and the Beast" presents popular, show-stopping numbers including "Be Our Guest," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Sometime There." Expect to see the familiar faces of Belle, Gaston, Maurice, a host of enchanted characters, and of course, Beast himself.

The show's title characters are portrayed by Kenley Shea Monson ("Beauty") from Powell, Ohio, and Matt Zimmerman ("Beast"), Sidney, Ohio.

"Beauty and the Beast" is directed by Renee Dobson, along with associate director Kirsten Osbun Manley.  Costumes are designed by Cathy Smalley, Freed Center costumer, and lighting is by Kathleen E. DeVault, resident lighting and sound designer.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens and $9 for children 12 and under. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling (419) 772-1900.
