ONU unveils plans for one of nation's first undegraduate degrees in engineering education
The T.J. Smull College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University announced that it will offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Education beginning in the fall of 2011.

Pharmacy names first endowed chair of pharmacy practice
The Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University has named Dr. Jenelle L. Sobotka to the endowed chair of pharmacy practice. This newly created position was established in part by alumni of the college to enhance the academic offerings available to ONU pharmacy students.


English Department to host prominent poet and novelist
Ohio Northern University’s Department of English will host aliterary reading from award-winning novelist and poet Chris Abani in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, March 16, at 7 p.m.

Social entrepreneur to speak at Spotts Lecture
Dr. Paul Polak, founder of the Colorado-based nonprofit organization International Development Enterprises (IDE), will be the featured speaker for the Ohio Northern University Spotts Lecture in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, March 21, at 7 p.m. His speech, "Design for the Other 90 Percent," is free and open to the public.

Kritzler lecture, March 22
Dr. Paul W. Bohn will deliver Ohio Northern University's 2011 Kritzler Lecture, titled "Integrated Microfluidics in 3-D Scientific Challenges in Putting Your Hospital's Clinical Lab on a Key Ring," in 107 Meyer Hall of Science on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m.

Visit days scheduled
Prospective students are invited to four special visit days during March and April, hosted by ONU’s Office of Admissions.

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Star Trek Live," a creation of Mad Science Productions, on Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m.

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “Three Cups of Tea” as part of its “One Book, One Community, One Play” series on Wednesday, March 23, at 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Ohio Northern University's Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Delta, the honor society for international scholars, has received the Outstanding Midwest Chapter Award for 2010-2011.

Science Fair judges needed
Faculty, staff and students 21 and older or who have junior status are invited to volunteer as judges for District Science Day. This year’s science day will be Saturday, March 19.

Academic Information Fair
Academic departments and professional organizations can showcase their programs to recruiters at ONU’s Spring Career and Graduate School fair, March 9, sponsored by the Office of Career Services. The academic information event will coincide with the Career and Graduate Fair so recruiters can maximize their time on campus. Faculty members can network with recruiters and make connections for internships and jobs. Learn to swim
ONU Swimming and Diving learn to swim lessons will be offered April 3,10,17 and May 1 and 8 by students in the coaching theories of competitive swimming class with proceeds to benefit the ONU men and women's swimming and diving team. Cost is $50. For details, contact j-ewald@onu.edu

Students to help with tax preparation
Elderly and low-income tax payers in Hardin and surrounding counties can find free income tax assistance from Ohio Northern University business administration and law students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

Winter Deans' List now online
Undergraduate students who were named to the Dean's List for Winter quarter, 2010-11, are listed below. Students on the Deans' List must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled full-time.

Kappa Epsilon women provide comfort and hope

Members of Kappa Epsilon, women’s professional pharmacy sorority, donated 75 baskets of “comfort and hope” to St. Rita’s Medical Center to be used for women diagnosed with breast cancer.


Passport Day, March 10
ONU will host a Passport Day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 10 in the McIntosh Center. Cost of a basic adult passport is $150, including photos. Anyone wishing to apply for a U.S. passport must have a certified copy of their birth certificate and a photo ID. Two checks or money orders are needed for payment.

Rubi Affair benefits AIDS research
Ohio Northern University’s Open Doors student organization will host the Rubi Affair in the McIntosh Center activities room on Saturday, March 12, at 8 p.m.

Sarah L. (McConnell) Rowland, BSCE ’06, P.E., has been named 2011 Young Engineer of the Year by the Toledo Society of Professional Engineers, Ohio chapter. The award is given to a young engineer who excels in educational and collegiate achievements, professional and technical society activities, civic and humanitarian activities, engineering achievements and professional engineering accomplishments.
