Thank you John and Bob.

I am thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve Ohio Northern University.

ONU is a special place, a beautiful campus with quality facilities, a great faculty, outstanding students, dedicated staff, loyal alumni, and a rich tradition of combining the liberal arts with excellent professional education.  Ohio Northern is truly a University poised for 21st century greatness.

Over the course of the search, Chris and I have become excited about this community’s commitment and desire to aspire to greater regional and national prominence.  Chris joins me in pledging to you our energy and enthusiasm for fulfilling ONU’s clear and vital mission.

I want to thank Search Committee Chair John Bishop and all members of the search committee for nominating me and express deep gratitude to Board Chair Bob Smith and all the members of the ONU Board for the confidence you have bestowed on me. I very much appreciate your support, and am grateful to have the opportunity to work with such an extremely committed, talented, and generous board of trustees.

I also want to acknowledge the superb leadership of the University’s two recent presidents with whom I have the privilege of sharing this moment, DeBow Freed and Ken Baker.  They have set the bar high and leave an impressive record of accomplishment.  Chris and I look forward to a positive transition and to building upon the many successes of Ken and Toby Baker.

To be sure, there are present challenges facing ONU and private higher education in general.  Nonetheless, Ohio Northern’s future is very bright.  I believe if we work together effectively, focus our energies, and act decisively, ONU will be bigger, better and more recognized regionally and nationally.

As an experienced higher education leader, I have a lot of passion and energy for what I do.  Grounded in my faith and my optimism, I believe anything is possible. With creativity and imagination, hard work, and a collegial approach, ONU will meet its loftiest goals and continue to prepare students for lives of success and service.

Chris and I are eager to begin and to build the relationships that will propel us forward and, of course, northward!

Thank you again for this great opportunity.
