Winter Storm Shuts Down ONU Campus
The massive winter storm that dropped up to two feet of snow in the Midwest, hit Ada with ice and sleet. The ONU campus closed at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, and remained closed all day Wednesday, Feb. 2. There were no power outages and classes resumed on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Law Presents 'A Debate on the Future of Environmental Regulation'
The Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law will host "A Debate on The Future of Environmental Regulation" on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 11:15 a.m. in the Moot Court Room (129). The event's featured debaters will be John Kunich, a Fulbright Senior Specialist and author of "Betting the Earth," and professor George Gonzalez of the University of Miami, Florida. The event is presented by the Environmental Law Society and the Federalist Society for Law Public Policy Studies.

ONU to Celebrate Black History Month
Ohio Northern University will commemorate Black History Month this February with a number of scheduled events. Several campus organizations will collaborate to provide diverse opportunities to celebrate African American heritage.

University Singers Plan Spring Trip
Ohio Northern’s University Singers will begin their spring tour on Feb. 25 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and continue through March 6 in Athens, Ga.

Freed Center presents 'Proof'
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Proof" on Tuesday, Feb. 8, Thursday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. in the Freed Center. There also will also be an afternoon show on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. and a pre-show discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7:15 p.m.

'It's Only Life'
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "It's Only Life" on Friday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. Written by esteemed American composer John Bucchino and performed in the past by talents such as Judy Collins, Patti LuPone, Yo-Yo Ma, Audra MacDonald, Liza Minnelli and Art Garfunkel, "It's Only Life" is a musical revue about longing, fulfillment, loss, triumph and, ultimately, wisdom.

'Late Nite Catechism 3: 'Til Death Do Us Part'
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Late Nite Catechism 3: 'Til Death Do Us Part" on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. One of the longest-running shows in United States theatre history, "Late Nite Catechism" returns to ONU by popular demand.

Spotlight: Faculty & Staff

Yoder Presents Paper in India
Dr. John-David Yoder, associate professor of mechanical engineering, presented a paper “Experiments in Vision-Laser Fusion using the Bayesian Occupancy Filter” at the twelfth international symposium on experimental robotics (ISER) in Delhi, India. The paper described the work done by Yoder and his co-authors Mathias Perrollaz, Igor Paromtchik, Yong Mao and Christian Laugier during his sabbatical last year. Ohio Northern University was the only primarily-undergraduate university represented at the event, which took place from Dec. 18 to 21.

Obielodan Receives High Commendation
Dr. John Obielodan, visiting professor of mechanical engineering, received a high commendation from Emerald Publishing. The award was in the additive manufacturing area, for his dissertation work titled "Fabrication of Multi-Material Structures Using Ultrasonic Consolidation and Laser-Engineered Net Shaping." The award recognized outstanding research, and was open to all applicants who finished their dissertations over the three-year period from October 2007 to October 2010.

Boyadzhiev Publishes Solution to Problem 916
Khristo Boyadzhiev, Ph.D., professor of mathematics, has published a solution to Problem 916 in “The College Mathematics Journal.” The problem deals with a definite integral and the Glaisher-Kinkelin constant. James Glaisher was a prolific British mathematician and the constant figures prominently in number theory and in the theory of special functions.

Zaki Co-authors Article
Mohammad Zaki, visiting assistant professor of mathematics, has co-authored with Alexandru Zaharescu the article, “An ABC Analog for Arithmetical Functions,” in the “Journal of the Ramanujan Mathematical Society."  Their article deals with an analog of a famous conjecture in number theory that was first proposed by two well-known mathematicians, Masser and Oesterle.

Join the Relay for Life
Teams are being organized for Relay for Life’s April 29-30 event on the ONU tundra. The event begins at 6 p.m., April 29 and ends at noon April 30 with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. To learn more about forming a team for this event, contact Jaclyn Purgert at j-urgert@onu.edu

Academic Information Fair
Academic departments and professional organizations can showcase their programs to recruiters at ONU’s Spring Career and Graduate School fair, March 9, sponsored by the Office of Career Services. The academic information event will coincide with the Career and Graduate Fair so recruiters can maximize their time on campus. Faculty members can network with recruiters and make connections for internships and jobs. The Academic Information Fair will be in the Field House where recruiters can visit before or after the open fair which is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. To reserve a spot, e-mail Jane Ward at j-ward.2@onu.edu.

Molly Eickholt Receives Purdue Scholarship
Molly Eickholt, a senior from Dublin, Ohio with a double major in mathematics and communication studies, has been awarded a full scholarship and assistantship to Purdue University's masters program in media technology and society communication. Purdue University's communication program is a top tier program and Molly is an exceptional student and should be commended for this award, says Jennifer L. Walton, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication studies.

Student Research and Design Bring Wind Turbines to ONU

In a recent issue of Ohio Engineer, ONU engineering students, now graduates, are recognized for their research and design work to bring wind turbines to the campus. See pages 8 and 9.

CareerFest, Feb. 4
Sign up for CareerFest 2011, Feb. 4 at the Aladdin Shrine Complex in Columbus, Ohio. This career fair is one of the largest in Ohio and features students from 34 member institutions of the Ohio Federation of Independent Colleges. Employers will be recruiting all majors for a variety of internships and full-time employment positions. Students are encouraged to attend and should register by contacting ONU’s Office of Career Services. Free transportation will be provided by Career Services. Alumni are welcome.
