Ohio Northern University celebrates Black History Month this February with a number of scheduled events. Several campus organizations will collaborate to provide diverse opportunities to celebrate African-American heritage. Here is the schedule of February's activities:
Do you know Black History? Would you like to learn more? The Office of Multicultural Development will distribute weekly trivia questions via e-mail to students, staff, and faculty. Correct responses will be entered in a weekly drawing of a prize.
Black History Month Profiles WONB
Throughout February WONB 94.9FM is airing vignettes on famous African-Americans. They will air Monday through Friday at 9:30am, 2:30pm and 6:30pm.
Annual Black Student Union Fashion Show and Dance
Friday, February 4, 2011 at 7 pm in the McIntosh Center Activities Room

Annual Kuumba Festival
Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 7:00 pm in the McIntosh Ball Room
“Kuumba” is a word from the Swahili Language that means “creativity”. This annual showcase of talent includes dance, song, poetry, culture, and music. The event is all campus inclusive and welcomes the creative influence of all ethnic backgrounds and cultures. The event is sponsored by the ONU Black Student Union and Student Senate.
Trip to the Charles H. Wright Center for African American History

The Office of Multicultural Development will sponsor a trip for ONU Student to visit the Charles H. Wright Center for African American History in Detroit. The trip is open for the first 20 currently enrolled Ohio Northern University Students that sign up to attend the trip.
Kold Kutz: A Black Barbershop experience in Ada

The Ohio Northern University Multicultural Center will sponsor the program entitled “Kold Kutz” on February 15, 2011 6:30 pm @ the ONU Multicultural Center. The program will feature African American barbers from Lima, Ohio, whom will offer free haircuts for the first 50 Ohio Northern Students that sign up and are present for the entire event.
