ONU Offers Condolences to Mount Union Following Bus Crash
President Dr. Kendall L. Baker and the entire ONU community offer condolences to the University of Mount Union. A late night crash between a Mount Union wrestling team bus and a snow plow in Crawford County has left one person dead and four others injured. The team was returning from a match at Ohio Northern. "Our hearts go out to the Mount Union family," Ohio Northern Director of Athletics Tom Simmons said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the athletes, coaches, administrators and their families during this difficult time." "It's a tragedy," added ONU Wrestling Coach Ron Beaschler. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the team, the families and the university." A moment of silence will be held at the ONU/Wilmington men's basketball game Wednesday evening.

ONU to Host Fifth Annual Mock Trial Tournament

Ohio Northern University's mock trial program will host the fifth annual Polar Bear Invitational Mock Trial Tournament from Jan. 15-16. The competition will take place at Ohio Northern's Pettit College of Law, Hill Building and Dukes Memorial. A total of 410 students from 27 colleges and universities will participate in the tournament, with teams traveling from as far away as Vermont, Florida and Alabama to compete.

Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals Coming to ONU
The Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two separate cases at Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011. The session begins at 10 a.m. in the Moot Court Room.

Sebok Pharmacy Lecture to Welcome Executive Director of National Association of Boards of Pharmacy
Dr. Carmen A. Catizone, executive director of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), will be the guest speaker for the second annual Sebok Pharmacy Lecture established by the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy. Catizone will deliver his lecture, “Quality of Care: Can Pharmacy Measure Up?,” in the ONU Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m.

River North Chicago Dance Company to Appear with ONU Dance Company
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the River North Chicago Dance Company with the ONU Dance Company on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at 2 p.m. The Saturday show also will feature a pre-show discussion at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents ONU Symphony Orchestra: Eastern Melodies in the Freed Center on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m.

Freed Center presents 'Proof'

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Proof" on Tuesday, Feb. 8, Thursday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. in the Freed Center. There also will also be an afternoon show on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. and a pre-show discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7:15 p.m.

HealthWise Offers Preventive Health Counseling
ONU HealthWise will be offering individualized preventive health counseling. Personalized reviews will be evidence-based and follow recommendations established by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. The intention of this service is to provide assistance to employees in determining the most appropriate screenings and preventive services based on individual risk factors.

Dance Team Hosts Clinic

The ONU Northern Stars Dance Team will host a clinic for 4-18 year-olds from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29 in the King Horn Sports Center. 

Bud Smith Publishes 'Ohio Outback'
“Ohio Outback: Learning to Love the Great Black Swamp,” the latest book by Dr. Claude Clayton “Bud” Smith, ONU professor of English emeritus, is now available.

Residence Life Sponsors Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

ONU’s Office of Residence Life is now an official sponsor of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Hardin County. The Office of Residence Life selected Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Hardin County as its philanthropy and last year raised $3,000 in donations.

Astronomy Club Invites Community to New Observatory
The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club is conducting an astronomy event in the new ONU Observatory on Friday, Jan. 14, from 8-10 p.m. The astronomers will focus on viewing the Moon, Uranus and Jupiter through their large telescopes. The event is free and open to the public.

Documentary Looks at Immigration Battle
The documentary film “9500 Liberty” will be shown at 7 p.m., Jan. 18 in the McIntosh Ballroom, followed by a question and answer discussion with the film’s director Eric Byler.

Polar Bear Track & Field Teams Looking to Take OAC by Storm
The Ohio Northern track and field teams enjoyed a fair share of success last season under head coach Jason Maus.
The Polar Bear men finished the indoor season 49-4 overall and brought home the Ohio Athletic Conference championship, finishing first with 155 points.
