Pi Sigma Alpha Grant to Host Speaker
ONU’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, has received a grant of $848 from the national organization to help fund a speaker on campus.
This is the ninth consecutive year the ONU chapter has received grants from the national organization with the total over $11,000.
The grant, written by political science majors Kelly Morman, a senior from Monroeville, Ohio, and Adam Schwiebert, a senior from Hamler, Ohio, and history majors Matt Wiseman, a senior from Findlay, Ohio, and Daniel Arant, a senior from Lima, Ohio, will fund the March 22 visit of author Dr. Jack Shaheen. Shaheen, the author of "Reel Bad Arabs," will come to campus to speak on the prevalence of Arab stereotypes in all forms of the American media.
Shaheen has given lectures in all 50 states and also consults with the United Nations, the United States Information Agency, the Los Angeles Commission on Human Relations, and New York City's Commission on Civil Rights. His appearance is also being underwritten by CASE (Cultural and Special Events Committee) and the prison management program.
