Ice Cream Dreams for ONU Alumnae Lane Kessler
Pecan Pie On The Fly is the name of the sweet concoction that has ONU graduate Lane Kessler, BS ’06, vying for top honors in Baskin Robbins’ annual create an ice cream flavor contest.
Ice cream-lover Kessler entered the contest back in October. “I tried to come up with my dream ice cream flavor that didn't already exist. Pecan pie is one of my favorite desserts, so I tried to recreate the flavors of that, but in an ice cream,” she explains.
Her entry was one of just 10 chosen from nearly 20,000 entries. “As a finalist, I've already won a year's worth of free ice cream. If my flavor gets the most number of online votes, I will win a four-day trip to Boston where I will get to go to the Baskin Robbins headquarters and meet with their research and development team and head chef, and witness the development of the flavor. I believe the winning flavor will be made into an ice cream that will be sold at Baskin Robbins next summer!” she says.
The winner is chosen by online votes. Deadline is noon, Dec. 12.
Since graduation, Kessler has been employed as a registered sanitarian at the Medina County Health Department in Medina, Ohio. “It’s a fancy name for health inspector,” she says. “I conduct inspections of school buildings, public swimming pools, tattoo/body piercing establishments, campgrounds, manufactured home parks, and also work with our enforcement program for Ohio's Smoke-Free Workplace Law.”
