Freed Center presents 16th annual Holiday Spectacular

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the 16th annual performance of Holiday Spectacular at the Freed Center on Friday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. There also will be performances at the Civic and Convention Center in Lima on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m.

The show will feature festive carols, lavish sets, ballerinas, toy soldiers and, of course, Santa Claus himself. The story centers on the misadventures of Mrs. Claus and the quirky elf Pixel as they try to help Santa on Christmas Eve. The production is complete with an abundance of singing and dancing numbers that entertain audiences of all ages.

The cast consists of 23 students and five understudies. Many students also work backstage to keep the show running smoothly, especially stage manager Sydney Kuhlman, a senior communication arts major from Ada, Ohio, and her two assistant stage managers, Juliana Merk, a junior communication arts major from Parma, Ohio, and Katie Presley, a freshman communication arts major from Ashtabula, Ohio.

This year, the role of Santa will be played by Zane Sade, a freshman communication arts major from Churubusco, Ind. Mrs. Claus will be played by Lauren Tennet, a freshman communication arts major from Houston, Texas. Pixel will be played by Caitlin Hamm, a sophomore communication arts major from Northfield, Ohio. The dance corps will be led by Amanda Fannon, a senior communication arts major from Kenton, Ohio.

All tickets for the Lima performances are for general-admission seating and are available for $5. Tickets for these Lima performances are on sale at all Kewpee locations and at the Freed Center.

Tickets for the Freed Center performances are $20 for general admission, $17 for seniors and non-ONU students, $12 for children 12 and under, and $5 for ONU students. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling 419-772-1900.
