Swimmer, Paralympic Coach to Speak

David Denniston, head coach for the Resident U.S. Paralympic Swim Team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, will be guest speaker at an ONU Swimming and Diving Varsity Club fundraiser set for Oct. 23. Tickets for the dinner and silent auction are no longer available, but the public is invited to attend Denniston’s speech at approximately 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, in the north gym of the ONU Sports Center.

A graduate of Auburn University, Denniston was the 1999 NCAA champion in the 200-meter breaststroke. He qualified for the World Championship team in 2003 and just missed making the 2004 U.S. Olympic team.

In 2005 a sledding accident left him with paralysis in the lower body and legs.  He returned to swimming for rehabilitation and went on to make the 2008 U.S. Paralympic Swimming Team and compete in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.
