‘An American in China’
Dr. Russ Crawford, assistant professor of history, will present “An American or Two in China, Summer 2010,” a slide and lecture at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Dicke Hall Forum.
The program is part of Phi Beta Delta’s International Forum.
Crawford and his wife, Sophie, spent the summer teaching and travelling in the People’s Republic of China. Crawford said he had a good grasp of the history of the nation but a poor command of the language. Despite the language barrier, he and his wife were able to enjoy their time in the People’s Republic. He will talk about the places that they visited, the sites they saw, as well as the trials and rewards of teaching abroad. He will also discuss the ways in which Western culture has transformed China since the death of Mao Zedong.
He has been teaching at ONU since 2005.
