Keiser lectureStem Cell Research Expert to Lecture
Ohio Northern University will host a lecture by leading stem cell research expert Dr. Renee Reijo-Pera in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. Reijo-Pera’s presentation, “Human Health, Development and Stem Cells,” is part of the Keiser Distinguished Lectureship in Life Sciences program.

Two members of the Communications Arts Department were honored with awards by the Ohio Communication Association. Dr. Alisa Agozzino and Dr. Jenny Walton each received teaching awards.

Hill Silent Auction Benefits The Northern Fund
The annual Hill Silent Auction to benefit The Northern Fund is now underway. ONU faculty, staff and students can bid on a variety of items until 1 p.m., Nov. 3.

United Way Campaign Continues
The United Way of Hardin County is beginning its annual campaign. This year’s goal is a repeat of last year’s $200,000 to support 22 community agencies. The ONU community is a major supporter of the campaign.

‘Community Development and the Rhetoric of Hate'

The Department of Philosophy and Religion will present a lecture by Dr. Verna Ehret, Mercyhurst College, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14 in Dicke 230.

Paper to be Published
Boris N. Mamlyuk, visiting assistant professor of law, is author with Ugo Mattei, of an article accepted for publication in an upcoming issue of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law.

Essay Published
Dr. Forrest Clingerman, assistant professor of philosophy and religion, is author of a review essay in the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture 4.

White to Speak at Conference
Robin M. White, MSN, RN, assistant professor of nursing, will be a speaker at the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) 28th Annual Mid-year Career Planning Conference, Nov. 4-7.

Faculty/Staff Fridays – the Write Stuff
Finding a spot for uninterrupted writing can be as challenging for faculty and staff as it is for students. That’s why the Heterick Memorial Library (HML) and Communication Skills Center (CSC) have teamed up to offer Faculty/Staff Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. on the second floor of the library.

Learning With a Foreign Accent
Study abroad is open to ONU students in all majors. For some it is required for graduation. On Friday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the McIntosh Activities Room, the second annual study abroad fair will give students the opportunity to learn more.

'Bear Necessities' is a Winner

In a contest to name the new on-campus convenience store in Affinity Commons, several students provided the name “Bear Necessities.”

Washington Center Gala
ONU students currently interning in Washington, D.C., and several ONU graduates of the program, took part in the recent Washington Center gala, held Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C.

Polar Sustainable Entrepreneur Pitch and Poster Competition

Time to enter the Polar Sustainable Entrepreneur Pitch and Poster Competition for cash awards. Competition will be 6 to 9 p.m., Nov. 2, in the atrium of The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration. Registration deadline is Oct. 26. See details.

Math and Statistics Students and Faculty Present



Senior mathematics major, Ashley Risch from Hudson, Ohio, and Drs. Drs. Khristo Boyadzhiev and Larry Robinson presented papers at two Miami University conferences.

Students, Professors Present Papers at Meeting of Anthropologists and Sociologists
Four students from ONU’s Department of Psychology and Sociology presented papers at the annual meeting of the Anthropologists and Sociologists of Kentucky, held at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia Kentucky on Oct. 1-2.

LeGendre Receives ‘Distinguished Student Award’
Renee LeGendre, a senior in communication arts from Toledo, Ohio, and the current president of ONU's PRSSA chapter, was recognized with the "Distinguished Student Award" as the top undergraduate communication student in Ohio at the recent Ohio Communication Association conference.

Gamma Chi Chapter Honored

ONU’s Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Omicron has been named recipient of the 2010 Chapter Progress Award. The award was made in recognition of the chapter’s 83 percent gain in membership during the 2009-10 academic year.

Vote for ONU Recycles! Deadline, Oct. 14!

ONU Recycles is one of five national finalists in the Great American Cleanup competition. The winner receives $5,800 with another $5,800 going to the local Keep America Beautiful affiliate. You can vote online for the ONU representatives online.

Flu Vaccine to be Available
The Student Health Center will be offering flu vaccine to students from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Oct. 16 and 27 at no charge. Contact the health center to learn more.
