Professor Heads State Math Chapter

Dr. Donald A. Hunt, associate professor of mathematics and chair of the department of mathematics and statistics, is serving as president of the Ohio Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

Dr. Bob Hovis, retired professor of mathematics, is Bob Hovis is the OhioMAA liaison to Ohio MATYC (Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges).

The MAA is one of the two major professional mathematics organizations in the U.S.  It was founded almost 100 years ago on the campus of The Ohio State University, and the Ohio Section was the first registered section of the organization. The MAA was founded in part as a vehicle for the continued publication of the mathematics journal "American Mathematical Monthly", which had been in publication since 1894 and is still today one of the nation's leading mathematics journals. The Monthly's founder and first editor was ONU graduate Benjamin Franklin Finkel.

The mission of the MAA is "to advance the mathematical sciences, especially at the collegiate level." Learn more about the organization at
