Multicultural Affairs Supports Nation Junior Golf Championship
ONU’s Office of Multicultural Development, along with other community sponsors Proctor & Gamble, St. Rita’s Medical Center, Rhodes State College, Marathon Oil and others, partnered with the Midwest Golf Association in hosting the National Junior Championship Tournament at Lima’s Hawthorne Hills Golf course on July 17 and 18.
The Midwest Golf Association has been coming to Lima/Allen County for over 25 years. This event is one of three open (non country club membership exclusive) events in America, where youth have the opportunity to qualify to participate in the PGA National Junior Championship Tournament.
This is especially attractive to minority and other non country club members. Approximately 120 young golfers between the ages of 7 to 23 participated. The Pee Wee Division played on the executive 9-hole course while the junior and college divisions played on the regulation18-hole course.
The National Junior Golf Championship was directed by the Midwest Golf Association’s Tournament Director and President Dennis Morgan with various MGA officers and Lima volunteers Londell Smith, Jeff Kirkman and Dianne Ricks assisting.
