Al-Olimat leads Ohio Northern University to electrical engineering grant

Dr. Khalid S. Al-Olimat, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Ohio Northern University, is part of a nationwide consortium from 65 universities cooperating as part of a $2.5 million U.S. Department of Energy grant to be awarded to the University of Minnesota.

The grant is part of a larger initiative to revitalize electrical power engineering education. Al-Olimat is leading ONU’s participation in the project. Over a three-year period, ONU will receive $25,000, which will be used for summer faculty salaries and faculty travel to workshops.

“The idea is that faculty members in the area of power engineering from 65 universities nationwide collaborate to renovate education in power engineering,” Al-Olimat said. “This effort includes developing new lecture materials in the areas of power systems, power electronics, machine drives and renewable energy sources.”
