ONU Design Graduate To Present Lecture “Beyond the Bubble”
The Ohio Northern University Department of Art & Design is proud to announce an interactive lecture “Beyond the Bubble” by 2005 graduate Laurie Godfrey (BFA, art/graphic design). The talk is scheduled for Saturday, May 1 at 1p.m. in the Wilson Art Center. The talk focuses on her experiences navigating through the options and challenges of life beyond an undergraduate degree in art and design.
This student-directed discussion uncovers aspects of the “student process” and professional development as it relates to internships, graduate school, exhibition and job opportunities in the face of reality within this contemporary market. For students interested in graduate school, Laurie’s talk also addresses life as an MFA student and the process of creating and presenting a cohesive body of work.
As a printmaker, photographer and digital media artist from Columbus, Ohio, Laurie's outlook is continually evolving as the nature of print is challenged and redefined by technology. Current junior and senior art students are invited and encouraged to partake in an open dialogue session with Laurie following this presentation.
Laurie earned her Bachelor’s degree in art/graphic design with minors in museum studies and web/multimedia development. She recently earned her MFA degree in printmaking in 2009 from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania located near Erie, PA. Life has come full circle, as Laurie has returned as a current Adjunct Instructor in Art at Ohio Northern, teaching illustration and digital photography.
While in graduate school, Laurie worked as Assistant Director for the Egress Press and Research (EPR), a fine art publishing and research component of the Printmaking Area of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania's Art Department. While there, she editioned prints for visiting artists including Tom Huck, Patricia Villalobos Echeverria, Jay Ryan, Diana Sudyka, and Mike Budai. In the fall of 2008, Laurie was invited to present her work and demonstrate the process of photolithography in Costa Rica at the Universidad Nacional Costa Rica and Escuela Casa del Artista.
