National Medical Laboratory Week, April 18-24

In celebration of National Medical Laboratory Week, the West Central Ohio Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program at ONU will host two open house events.

For the campus community of faculty, staff and students, an open house is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., April 21 in the CLS laboratory, Mathile Room 110.

The community open house will be 10 a.m. to noon, April 24 in the CLS laboratory.

Open house events will include student-led demonstrations of common laboratory tests, information and refreshments.

Among the demonstrations will be the different states of blood, what group A streptococcus looks like macroscopically and microscopically, and normal blood smears versus smears with red blood cell and white blood cell abnormalities.

Cholesterol testing will be available with no fasting required. CLS program information as well as National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week information will be available.

ONU’s Department of Biological and Allied Health Sciences offers both a baccalaureate degree and a post baccalaureate certificate in Clinical Laboratory Science. Partnered with community medical laboratories like the one at Lima Memorial Hospital, ONU’s graduates are in high demand throughout Ohio, the United States and around the world.  The ONU program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).

The CLS program is located in a new, state-of-the-art laboratory in the Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences, Room 110, where students get both classroom instruction and hands-on experience with many of the laboratory procedures they will be performing as professionals.

Students involved in the ONU CLS program have an active student organization, PACLS, the Professional Association of Clinical Laboratory Students.
