Forum Presents ‘The Military and the Media’

“The Military and the Media” is the topic for a Phi Beta Delta International Forum presentation set for 7 p.m., Monday, March 29, in the Dicke Forum. The event is open to the public.

Col. John J. Smith, BA’81, will be the guest seaker. Smith received his master’s degree in English from Texas A&M University and his doctorate in English from the University of Florida.

He was a professor of English at the United States Military Academy, West Point, for 10 years and is now editor of Military Review, the U.S. Army’s professional journal. Smith is the brother and brother-in-law of ONU professors Sarah and Rob Waters.

Col. Smith served in combat during the first Persian Gulf War, was a lecturer at the National War College, was a liaison to the Russian General Staff, and helped to found Afghanistan’s military academy, where he served as an English professor for one school year.
