Students Publish Article

Clinical laboratory science students Natasha Axton, BS ’08, from Cambridge, Ohio, and Katie Bowen, a senior from Brunswick, Ohio, are co-authors of an article published in MLO LABline, a monthly online newsletter produced by the publishers of MLO (Medical Laboratory Observer.)

Ashton and Bowen’s article, “Point-of-care Glucose Meters Vs. Centralized Laboratory Serum Testing,” is the first by students to be published in a new student-centered section of the newsletter.

Lisa Walden, M.Ed, MT (ASCP) of ONU’s clinical laboratory science (CLS) program says “the ONU CLS program gets credit for inspiring the section."

She explains that when Axton and Bowen originally submitted their article to the MLO journal, they were rejected for being “just students.” After communication with the journal’s editor, the idea of the student section in LABline was born.  “My thanks to Carren Bersch, MLO editor, for bringing the idea to life.,” Walden says.
