Mock Trial Team Fifth at Lewis University

The Polar Bears Mock Trial team has returned from Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., with another fifth-place finish. Students on this year’s team 448 include Alexadra Habbouche, a junior political science major from Oregon, Ohio; Dan Jones, a senior political science major form Ashland, Ohio; Robert Kidd, an international business and economics major from North Ridgeville, Ohio; Laura Presbrey Peet, a senior political science major from Ithaca, Mich.; Lara Wood, a senior international studies major from Clyde, Ohio; Steve Keslar, a senior journalism major from New Kensington, Pa.; and Matt Wiseman, a senior history major from Findlay, Ohio.

Keslar earned both an outstanding attorney and an outstanding witness award. Many other team members were also only a few points away from earning awards themselves at the competition.

ONU mock trial couch Joann Scott said, “At the beginning of the fourth and crucial round, ONU was on the prosecution side and thus had to compete against the No. 1 team on the defense side of the case, which was Loyola University. Although ONU lost both ballots, they did so by only a few points. The competition was reasonably equal, and the ONU students demonstrated that they are well equipped to meet and compete with any team. I fully expect that, should ONU face Loyola in future tournaments, we will be successful against them.”

ONU will host its own mock trial competition Jan. 16 and 17, 2010.
