C-SPAN Features Washington Center, Mike Smith, BA ’86

Mike Smith, Washington CenterMike Smith, BA ’86, was featured in a recent segment on C-SPAN. Smith is president of the Washington Center. A number of ONU students have taken part in the center’s programs, including the 2008 national political conventions.

Brian Lamb of C-SPAN recorded a program with Washington Center students during politics and the media week.

In promoting the program, C-SPAN said, “This week on Q&A, students from The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars two-week Inside Washington Seminar discuss politics and government as viewed through their experience in visiting Washington, D.C. The students represent one group of the 600-800 college students who come to Washington each year in seminars sponsored by The Washington Center. In addition, The Washington Center facilitates substantive internships, academic programming and courses in fall, spring, or summer semesters for an additional 1,500 to 1,600 students from over 850 colleges and universities throughout the country.

“Students participating in these full-time internship programs in Washington, D.C., are able to earn full-time credit from their home institutions. The Washington Center is a nonprofit organization started in 1975. Its mission includes providing an integrated academic and work experience to prepare college students and professionals for lives of achievement and civic engagement”
