Ohio Northern University to host mock trial tournament
ADA – Thirty-eight teams from 24 different universities and 12 states will compete in the fourth annual Polar Bear Invitational Mock Trial Tournament on the campus of Ohio Northern University Jan. 16-17. The Ohio Northern undergraduate mock trial department, the ONU Pettit College of Law and the ONU Department of History, Politics and Justice are sponsoring the event.
Due to the tough competition and popularity of the event, the tournament has attracted teams from as far away as Florida, Maine, Washington and Alabama.
The first round of the tournament begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The trial rounds will be held in the ONU Pettit College of Law, Hill Memorial and Dukes Memorial. The tournament will close Sunday with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. in the McIntosh Activities Room.
In this tournament, each team litigates cases in front of two judges, who evaluate the competitors on their knowledge of the case material and presentation skills. Awards are given for outstanding attorneys and outstanding witnesses.
Participating schools are Baldwin-Wallace College, Bowling Green State University, Butler University, Carnegie-Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, University of Central Florida, University of Dayton, Eastern Michigan University, Elmhurst College (Illinois), Gonzaga University, Loyola University of Chicago, University of Maine, Miami University (Ohio), University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Minnesota, Mississippi Valley State University, Murray State University, University of North Alabama, University of Pittsburgh, Ohio Northern University, Ohio State University, St. Francis University (Illinois) and Western Michigan University.
