Ohio Northern University partners with Roxane Laboratories on pharmacy initiative

Dec 22, 2009

ADA – Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy and Roxane Laboratories announced the expansion of a partnership that allows Ohio Northern pharmacy students to explore the world of generic drug research and development.

“Roxane Laboratories’ commitment to our students strengthens their research experience and, more importantly, continues to contribute to the overall breadth and depth of the pharmacy program at ONU,” stated David Kisor, chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences at the Raabe College of Pharmacy.

Roxane Laboratories’ donation of an unrestricted educational grant renews support of the college’s student research program both in the ONU laboratories and at Roxane Laboratories. This support also allows four students to participate in a total of eight months of educational rotations at Roxane Laboratories. Funds also will be used to establish a research showcase that will highlight the research of existing ONU pharmacy students and serve as a catalyst for raising interest and encouraging future efforts.

Since 2006, ONU and Roxane Laboratories have collaborated in experiential learning and research, resulting in the development of a specialized two-month student rotation where students are welcomed as members of the development team in learning and contributing to Roxane Laboratories’ research.

Located in Columbus, Ohio, Roxane Laboratories employs more than 1,000 people in its modern 70-acre, 500,000-square-foot manufacturing and laboratory facility. Currently, Roxane Laboratories markets more than 80 medications in nearly 250 package sizes, focusing on an expanding line of multisource pharmaceutical products, including bulk and unit-dose liquids and solids; coated, sustained-release and controlled-release tablets; nasal sprays; cytotoxics; and CII narcotics.

Roxane Laboratories Inc. is a subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation, which is based in Ridgefield, Conn., and is a member of the Boehringer Ingelheim group of companies.
