ONU to Dedicate Herb Path
Ohio Northern University will dedicate its new medicinal herb path, a shade garden featuring 17 medicinal plants, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m.
A ceremony to dedicate the path will be held near the ONU soccer field at the northwest corner of the campus woodland. This path is a counterpart to the medicinal herb garden located in a sunny location on the south side of the Hakes-Pierstorf Family Pharmacy Education Center. Its creation is a service-learning project for students under the mentoring of Dr. Vicki Motz, visiting assistant professor of biological sciences, and Dr. David Kinder, professor of medicinal chemistry.
The herb gardens are part of ONU's ongoing herbal education for biology and pharmacy students. They will also be available for programs such as Camp G.E.M.S., the Summer Honors Institute and area herb society presentations.
The landscaped herb gardens are clearly marked. Brochures help identify the plants and their medicinal uses and caution about potential dangers.
