Brunner, who took over her duties in 2007, is the first woman to serve as Ohio's secretary of state. Prior to being elected to her current position, Brunner served as legislative counsel for the secretary of state's office and spent time as a Franklin County Common Pleas Court judge. She has more than 13 years of election law private practice experience.
In 2008, Brunner was awarded the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, the nation's most prestigious honor for elected public servants.
Brunner received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology-gernontology from Miami University and earned her juris doctorate from Capital Law School.
