Amy Murray Receives 2009 William L. Robinson Young Alumni Award

Oct 6, 2009
Amy (Widner) Murray, who graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1995 with a degree in environmental studies, has been named the recipient of the 2009 William L. Robinson Young Alumni Award.

This award is given each year to an individual who is committed to Ohio Northern, his or her profession, and the community. The award is named in honor of Bill Robinson, a 1961 graduate of ONU who has served the University for more than 50 years in numerous capacities and has been a positive influence on countless students and alumni. In 2005, Robinson was awarded an honorary degree and named to the ONU Athletic Hall of Fame.

Ann Donnelly Hamilton, ONU's director of alumni relations, said. "Amy is well deserving of this award. She has been extremely successful in her professional life and has been a model alumna for ONU. I am humbled to know her and appreciate all she does for ONU."

In honor of her award, Murray will be recognized prior to ONU's Homecoming football game against Heidelberg on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Since 2006, Murray, an environmental specialist, has been employed by Cornerstone Environmental Group LLC, where she assists with environmental compliance issues in the areas of solid waste management, surface water compliance and air compliance. She specializes in special waste profile reviews to ensure that commercial and industrial wastes are non-hazardous in classification prior to Subtitle D landfill acceptance.

While at ONU, she was a member of the Professional Association of Women in Science, Kappa Theta Alpha and ONU BEARS.

As an alumna, Murray has served as the secretary of the ONU Alumni Board and the vice president of the Cincinnati Alumni Club for ONU. Murray and her husband, 1995 ONU graduate Michael Murray, are members of the Henry Solomon Lehr Society.

Murray currently resides in Liberty Township, Ohio, with her husband and three children: Rachel, 7, and twins Jessica and Amanda, 5.
