Geography Honor Society Established at ONU

Ohio Northern University was awarded the Lambda Psi chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) Honor Society for International Geography this year and will have its first induction ceremony this Honors Day on May 9, 2009.

Charter members will be: Stephen Borden, a sophomore in history from Columbus, Ohio; Mathew Boutin, a senior in biology from Lima, Ohio; and Kevin Sigg, a senior in civil engineering from Maumee, Ohio.

Members of GTU have met academic requirements and share a background and interest in geography. GTU chapter activities support geography knowledge and awareness. GTU Chapter Coordinator, Visting Assistant Professor of Geography Dr. Harry J. Wilson, helped organize efforts to obtain the ONU charter.

"Interest in geography has increased among ONU students, and reflects in large part growing concern with the effects of globalization on the various cultures and societies that share our world," says Wilson. "Being entrusted with this chapter will help promote greater understanding of our growing interconnectedness which will, in turn, foster civic responsibility."
