Mar 11, 2009
Catherine Albrecht, Ph.D., has been named dean of Ohio Northern University's Getty College of Arts & Sciences, effective Aug. 1. The college has a faculty of 135 and 15 departments offering more than 50 majors and concentrations.

Albrecht succeeds Dr. Robert A. Manzer, who accepted a position as vice president for academic affairs at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. Dr. Lisa G. Robeson, associate professor of English, has served as interim dean since July 2008.

Dr. Kendall L. Baker, Ohio Northern president, said, "Dr. Albrecht brings with her a wealth of experience and enthusiasm, and she is highly qualified to lead our outstanding College of Arts & Sciences. Her diverse background and her past accomplishments are a perfect fit for ONU."

Albrecht comes to Ohio Northern from the University of Baltimore, where she has taught in the division of legal, ethical and historical studies since 1990. Albrecht received her undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees in history from Indiana University. She brings considerable administrative experience, having served as chair of two interdisciplinary divisions at the University of Baltimore and as chair of the university principal's governance body, the University Council.

Professionally, Albrecht has published numerous articles and was recognized as the Distinguished Chair in Teaching in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Baltimore in 2004-05. In 2001, she received the John Rath Prize for the best article in the Austrian History Yearbook. She has conducted research in the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany, participated in academic exchanges in several other European countries, and speaks Czech.
