Professor Elected to PRSA College of Fellows

Dec 10, 2008
Dr. Stephen D. Iseman, professor of communication arts and public relations at Ohio Northern University, has been elected to the prestigious College of Fellows of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

Iseman is one of 19 inductees this year to the College of Fellows, bringing the number of members to 455 out of more than 22,000 PRSA members. Election to the College is based on lifetime achievement and is a professional honor awarded to senior practitioners and educators.

To be considered for the College of Fellows, members must have taught or practiced public relations for at least 20 years, demonstrated superior capability as a practitioner or educator, exhibited personal and professional qualities that qualify him or her as a role model, and advanced the state of the profession. Members must also be Accredited Public Relations practitioners, which requires knowledge of public relations issues such as program, research, ethics, and legal issues and communications. Fellows are called on to continue their service to the profession through the College.

"His program at ONU is one of only 19 in the world to hold the Certified for Education in Public Relations designations from PRSA. Dr. Iseman's students frequently hold PRSSA national positions; two past National PRSSA presidents are from ONU, where Dr. Iseman has nurtured their leadership abilities. Several of his students have also received Outstanding Graduate Awards from the Central Ohio PSRA chapter," said Julie Theado, 2008 Central Ohio PRSA President.

Iseman joined ONU's public relations faculty in 1993. He is currently a professor and director of the public relations program and advisor of the Ohio Northern chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Iseman has 25 years of experience as a public relations practitioner. He holds a BFA from Ohio University, a master of communication arts degree from Xavier University and a doctor of philosophy degree from the Ohio State University.
