Opening Week Activities

SATURDAY, September 6th, 2008

I.D. cards can be picked up in McIntosh Center (if you already had your ID photo taken at Orientation) on Saturday, September 6th from 10am – 4pm and on Sunday, Sept. 7th from 10am – 2pm.

For your convenience, the ONU Bookstore will be open from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday, Sept. 6th; 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, Sept. 7th, and 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday.

Saturday lunch is complimentary for new students and parents in the Dining Hall. Dinner for new students will be the New Student Picnic.

  • 8:00 am Residence Halls Open For New Student Check-In
  • 11:30 am – 1pm Lunch for new students and parents. Dining Room
  • 4 pm **Parent/Family Send-off (Front lawn of Founders Hall) All parents, family members, and new students
  • 5 pm – 6 pm **New Student Picnic The President and First Lady host this picnic on the Tundra. Dress is informal.
  • 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm **Playfair A New Student Mixer ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse
  • 9 pm **Residential Students Meet with Residence Life Staff in Residence Halls for Wing Meetings (**Commuter Students meet in McIntosh Center Main Lounge Area to Learn About What is Available At ONU for Commuters)

SUNDAY, September 7th, 2008

  • 8:30 am – 11 am Continental Breakfast
  • 9:00 am Polar Trek - with small RH wing groups
  • 10 am - 10:45 am Transportation to the Churches of Ada from the McIntosh Fountain
  • 10 am Van(s) depart for First Baptist Church
  • 10:15 am Vans and bus depart for: First Methodist, First Presbyterian, St. Mark Lutheran, Grace Gospel, and Church of Christ’s Disciples
  • 10:45 am Buses depart for Our Lady of Lourdes
  • *Buses and Vans will return students to McIntosh after each church service.
  • 11:30 - 12:15 pm Contemporary Spirituality (In the Chapel with the Chaplain)
  • 12 pm – 2 pm Lunch
  • 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Financial Aid and Student Employment Session I (Chapel)
  • 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm Financial Aid and Student Employment Session II (Chapel), (Half students eat lunch; Half attend session)
  • 3 pm **Academic Sessions
    • **Pharmacy Students (HPPEC #151, New Addition to Pharmacy Building)
    • **Arts & Sciences Students (Refer to information sheet left in your residence hall room for locations)
    • **Business Students (Forum, James F. Dicke Hall)
    • **Engineering Students (Activities Room, McIntosh Center)
  • 4:30 pm – 6 pm Dinner
  • 6 pm – 9 pm **Greekapalooza (Come and rock out with the ONU Greek Community as they bring live music and fun to the Tundra.)

MONDAY, September 8th, 2008

  • 7 am – 9:30 am Breakfast
  • 9:30 am – 11 am Continental Breakfast
  • 7:40 am – 7:50 am Morning Prayer (English Chapel Prayer Room)
  • 8 am – 11:30 am Registration/General Add/Drop Session (Ballroom, McIntosh Center for freshmen, transfers, re-entries and students who attended spring quarter, but did not advance register. Students who miss the morning session will need to go to individual offices in the afternoon.)
  • 8 am – 9am Mathematics Placement Test (Calculus Readiness/Algebra) - Room 107, Meyer Hall
  • 9 am – 10:30 am **The Ultimate Road Trip (Please bring a pen or pencil. Sports Center – North Gymnasium)
  • 11 am – 1 pm **InfoTech Session I & II (Chapel)
    • Session I 11 am – 12 pm
    • Session II 12pm – 1 pm
  • 11 am – 1:30 pm Lunch
  • 2 pm – 3 pm Spirit Matters! Meet the student leaders from over 20 of the Chapel groups. Find out why Spirit Matters. English Chapel
  • 3 pm – 5 pm **Welcome Fest! (Learn how to get involved at ONU. Meet student leaders from the Student Senate, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, the Student Planning Committee and many other campus groups and organizations. Come out to the King Horn Fieldhouse.)
  • 4:30 pm – 7 pm Dinner – First Contract Meal For Upperclass Students
  • 5 pm – Midnight White Bear Inn will be open
  • 7 pm – 8 pm **Exploring Diversity with Residence Hall Wing Groups (See RA for Locations)
  • 7 pm – Midnight Meal Exchanges Available
  • 8 pm – Midnight Affinity Commons Open

TUESDAY, September 9th, 2008

  • 9:30 am – Midnight White Bear will be Open (Meal Exchanges are available from 9:30 am – 11 am, 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm, 7 pm – Midnight)
  • 7 am – 9:30 am Breakfast
  • 7:40 am - 7:50 am Morning Prayer (English Chapel Prayer Room)
  • 8 am CLASSES BEGIN
  • 8:30 am Foreign Language Placement (Testing is available 8:30 - 11 am. Contact Melissa Verb (ext 2534) to make arrangements.)
  • 9:15 am – 11 am Continental Breakfast
  • 11 am - 1:30 pm Lunch
  • 4:30 pm – 7 pm Dinner
