ONU Chapter of ASCE Receives Governor’s Award

May 3, 2007
The Ohio Northern University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently received the 2007 Region 3 Governor’s Award.

The Governor's Award is presented to the best student chapter in the region. In addition to the Governor's Award, ONU’s ASCE chapter also received the Outstanding Service Award and is one of six schools in the United States who are finalists for the national Robert Ridgway Award. The Ridgway Award is given to the single most outstanding student chapter in the country.

ONU received the awards for its exemplary community service efforts such as reading to second graders, food drives, and other community projects. In addition, the ASCE chapter was recognized for being active in organizing field trips and inviting speakers to campus to increase awareness of the civil engineering profession.

“The College of Engineering is extremely proud of the efforts of the students in the ASCE chapter here at Ohio Northern. They are to be commended for their service to the community as well as their service to their profession,” said Dr. Eric Baumgartner, Dean of the T. J. Smull College of Engineering.

The ASCE Region 3 includes college and university chapters from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota.
