ONU to Host Relay for Life

Apr 25, 2007
Ohio Northern University will sponsor Relay for Life, a 24-hour walk to raise money for the fight against cancer on Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m. through Saturday, April 28 at 3 p.m.

The two-day event kicks off with an opening ceremony at the War Memorial track at 6 p.m. with the introduction of survivors and a survivor lap.

Activities that will take place throughout the event include performances from live bands, raffles, contests, themed laps and movies, as well as a luminary ceremony and other activities that raise awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and patient support.

As the signature event of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life gathers teams of individuals from campus and community organizations to camp out for 24 hours and take turns walking or running around the track at all times during the event.

This is the second year on campus for Relay For Life, the third year that the relay has been called Relay For Life of Ohio Northern University. The relay began as the Relay For Life of Hardin County in 1999 and since that first event a total of $176,300 has been raised in Ada. This year's goal is $23,000

Relay For Life brings together millions of people to raise money to help prevent cancer, save lives and diminish suffering from the disease. While they are raising much-needed funds they will also be raising awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and patient support. Relay brings together people from all walks of life with the common goal of eliminating cancer.
