Internships at a wide range of sites including the Smithsonian Institution, various state and local historical societies, and in other locations and occupations that match student majors.

Study Abroad throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas provide firsthand experiences with different cultures and exposes students to a wider world view.

Students are encouraged to attend and present at conferences aimed both at peer and professional audiences. Students have presented papers at History, Political Science, Social Studies, and Geography conferences, among others.

Model United Nations provides students the opportunity to deal with international issues in regional competition and at the UN in New York City. ONU also hosts a Model UN competition for area high school students.

Mock Trial sponsors several teams that compete regionally and nationally. ONU also hosts a university Mock Trial Invitational Tournament that attracts teams from across the nation.

Weekend Seminars the department hosts at the Metzger Nature Center. This facility can accommodate up to 16 students with ease. Recent weekend seminars included War on Film, Pietists and Anabaptists in Ohio, and Football on Film.
