ONU student honored with Charles J. Ping award
Justin J. Yarnell, an Ohio Northern University junior civil engineering major from Powell, Ohio, was selected as a winner of the 2006-07 Charles J. Ping Student Community Service Award by Ohio Campus Compact.
Yarnell, who serves as president of the ONU Chapter of Habitat, was recognized for heading up numerous community projects including coordinating the renovation of the Ada community food pantry. He has also traveled to Louisiana where he helped build homes for Hurricane Katrina victims and coordinated the rehabilitation of a New Orleans soup kitchen which has been closed since the hurricane.
The Charles J. Ping Award was designed to recognize and honor undergraduate students' outstanding leadership and contributions to community service on their campus and within their community. The award is granted annually to undergraduates from Ohio Campus Compact (OCC) member institutions that exhibit outstanding leadership in their community service endeavors both on their campus and within their community.
The president of their college or university must nominate candidates.
OCC is a membership organization of 46 Ohio colleges and universities that was established to support the development of campus-wide student and institutional participation in community and public service
