Wind Orchestra presents ‘Cities and Far Away Places’

Ohio Northern University’s Wind Orchestra will perform “Cities and Far Away Places” in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m.

“Cities and Far Away Places” explores pieces composed by artists who specifically write music inspired by the city atmosphere, including New York and Paris. The ONU Wind Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Thomas Hunt.

The ONU Wind Orchestra will open the program with “Vision Fanfare,” composed by Eric Knechtges and commissioned by ONU for the inauguration of ONU President Daniel DiBiasio. This piece will be followed by “The Pageant of London” by composer Paul Hindmarsh

In addition, the Wind Orchestra will perform “Music from Prague 1968,” a work commissioned by the Ithaca College Concert Band in 1969, ”Harold in Germany,” a work commissioned by the ONU Wind Orchestra in 2010, “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas,” a work composed by Eric Whitacre, and “Manhattan Beach,” a work from John Philip Sousa.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and non-ONU students, and $9 for children. Tickets are on sale now.
